The Spanish Government has included a recommendation on the website of the Ministerio de Inclusión, Seguridad Social y Migraciones in which it expressly says that it is “highly recommended” that British holders of a EU residence card in Spain (“green card” or certificate of Union citizen) change said document for the TIE (Foreigner Identity Card), which is the new document that accredits them as non-EU residents and that will be valid for five years, or for ten years if the applicant had permanent EU residence card.
The Spanish Government bases its recommendation on that by obtaining the TIE “not only the administrative procedures but also the crossing of the external borders of the European Union will be simplified”, since the TIE card conforms itself to the “model established in all Europe” after BREXIT.
